Rose Tea

Words are like the weather They can be cozy as cashmere  Bundled up The heat from the fire Melts the mountain chill Boots packed with  ice  crunch and squeak Steam wets my upper lip and  dews my nose  as I breathe  into my  bone china teacup  with my favorite rose tea- Swirling a tea bag is the perfect repetitive movement  For a fiddler like me But words, like the weather, Can be treacherous too A monsoon in the desert evening Winds howling, walls heaving Against a high-pitched squall  That yearns to pull the  earth from its roots Thunder bellows Lightning dazzles the night sky Unless, of course, You happen to be the thing  In between the lightning and the ground A scorned ego has no friends only foes So vengeful a god  who scolds at random As the sky cannot bear fury  a second longer Electricity rips the atmosphere And tonight,  anyone could die  by lightning strike

Social Engineering [Poem version of “The Unconsenting Study” Spoken Word]

I saw a vocational film from the year 1940

It’s video quality

grainy and scratchy

But the information made sense

We have all the tools today

But not the slightest clue

How to learn critical skills

like our grandparents knew

We lost the skills that

taught us how to survive

Upon faulty foundation,

we claw and scratch to thrive

Another woman is

an enemy and

seen as competition

Girls get taught

That envy

Is the only recognition

Our education system failed us

and left us unprepared

Divided we stand

A two party nation

Alone, not atoned , and scared

We all want the same thing

But can’t see past the screen to conceive

That perhaps this has been socially engineered

By the government or corporate greed

How is it that our generation

Doesn’t know how to do anything

It’s not for a lack of seeking and desiring

We became a worker bee

in someone else’s factory

We got burned by college loans

Never taught how to maintain a home

That is, if you can afford it

Or get tricked into paying triple

with a 30 year mortgage

Educators removed “home ec”

from high school classes

Ashamed we don’t know how

So we don’t ask,

Promised gold, but given ashes

Is this just a huge psyop?

A controlled study

Of unconsenting Americans

How far can we be pushed

Before we burst

Half of us addicted, half of us dependent

Our futures sold off and our spirits indented

Grandpa had a wage and his training was free

But universities saw a goldmine in you and me

Those modern pirates

Seeing our pockets for the taking

Though nothing in the school improved,

The prices kept raising

Alone and glued to our screens

We seek

    And seek

But what is sought is never found

Is this why there’s no useful information?

Because our sources are

in the business of clicks,

Not in education

If we learn the skill,

we won’t continue to click

Searching for some guidance,

perhaps this video is it?

Advertisements stifle our ability

to learn a new skill

Big Pharma plays games with our emotions

To market us new pills

We’re shown the way to the answer

But realize it was just an affiliate marketer

What little money we earn

We’re told to spend it on this new cure

The void inside us grows bigger

Our attention span fades like an ember

According to our Facebook memories,

Things aren’t as good as we quite remember
