Title: Kelp Forest, 6"X8" Intaglio Etching with Chine Colle, 2026
Three of my favorite prints this semester include Holy Trinity, a 10"X7" Photo-Polymer Intaglio Etching, Booom, a 6"X8" Intaglio Etching À la poupée with Aquatint, and Kelp Forest, a 6"X8" Intaglio Etching with Chine Colle. The Holy Trinity was made with a photo polymer plate in which I created a design using Procreate, printed it on a transparency paper and flashed it onto a photo-polymer plate. I then inked it and ran it through the press. Booom was created using a traditional intaglio copper plate and features my own etching. For the aquatint, I lightly sprayed spray paint at a 30 degree angle from all 4 corners to mask out the parts of the plate I didn't want touching the Ferric chloride bath and painted stop out varnish on the parts of the plate sequentially depending upon how dark I wanted the area to be. I stopped out the clouds and the ghost first to retain white, window-like areas. I inked it with À la poupée- a form of inking separate colors on the plate before running it through the press. Kelp Forest was created on a copper plate and I chine colle'd small pieces of paper onto the inked plate and ran it through the press. Overarching themes of these works include spirituality, death, and nature. I really immersed myself in exploring a variety of concepts this semester as well as a variety of line works and viewpoints.
